José Luis Borau, head of the Department of Accessibility to the Physical Environment of the ONCE Foundation, stressed in his speech at the International Conference on the Future of Accessibility, held recently in Israel, that the cities of the future can´t remain simple 'smart cities', they must fully meet the needs of people with disabilities, becoming inclusive, 'smart human cities' tailored to the needs of all its inhabitants, including those who, for example, have displacement difficulties. An effort that belongs to all, but particularly to the administrations, and that it is essential if one takes into account that, as Borau pointed out, there are currently more than 1,000 million people with reduced mobility (PRM) in the world, also estimating that by 2050 more than 70% of the world's population will live in cities.
CERMI asks for an employment plan for people with disabilities in Valencia
The Spanish Committee for Representatives of Persons with Disabilities (CERMI) will request the future leaders of Valencia's City Council to develop a specific inclusion program for those with disabilities, advocating for special attention regarding labor integration. With this objective, the group is committed to demand that only public entrepreneurs that proove they set aside 2% of their jobs to people with disabilities can participate in public biddings, as established by current legislation. At the same time, they also advocate the use of other measures such as holding a minimum of 6% of municipal contracts for protected employment companies, or increasing the quota, for disabled people in public jobs, from 5 to 7%, in different administrations.
Efforts to include people with disabilities should increase
"The appointment with the full inclusion of people with disabilities cannot wait”, said Cristina Gallach, high commissioner of the Government of Spain for the 2030 Agenda, on the recently held conference on 'The European political agenda of disability in the EU 2019-2024' organized by CERMI and the ONCE Foundation, which in collaboration with the European Parliament sponsored a meeting where it was recognized by all the participants that there is still a long way to go to achieve a complete elimination of all types of barriers faced by people with disabilities. The members also unanimously agreed that the measures should be adopted by different European countries in a binding way, so that they have a real impact. If not, it will remain a simple declaration of voluntary intentions.

Valencia will restrict the number of VTC licenses, as claimed by the taxi sector
The taxi sector in Valencia has achieved that its claims on the 30/1 rule (30 taxis with license to circulate for each VTC) be assesed in the new mobility ordinance of the City Council, whose approval is scheduled for this same month of January . Moreover, the councilor of Sustainable Mobility Committee, Giuseppe Grezzi, will also include in the meeting the issue of the main entities that defend the taxi association in the city against the launch of a work table, as a follow-up in the conflict with the VTC licenses' companies. All this, in the same week in which the multinational Uber has launched in the city and the taxi drivers have mobilized throughout the country to protect their rights.
Assessment of how the above woll affect the taxi service in Valencia
SU TAXI Valencia believes that the proportionality of 30 to 1 in the licensing will be a positive change and that it should be included in the new municipal ordinance. Although, together with our colleagues we demand a greater involvement of the rest of the administrations in defense of both the sector and society as a whole against the business model of the VTC, which damages the worker and lessens the income to the Treasury of all tax paying countries which are working with a kind taxation model. In addition, for your benefit, the taxi in general and SU TAXI Valencia in particular are committed to a sustainable and inclusive mobility, which for example meets the needs of people with reduced mobility, with the appropriate vehicle: the adapted taxi or eurotaxi, that has everything necessary to guarantee travelers in wheelchairs with a comfortable and safe journey.
