In a society like ours, language is one of the first and most frequent, contact with others; This defines us as a person, as an institution, as a service.
Taking into account that we are specialized in providing taxi service for wheelchairs, it seems ethical and responsible to give some explanations about the controversial term “disability” and its correct use at the public level. Our purpose is not to affirm or impose one use or another, but to raise awareness, respect and be kind to every human being.
Years ago...
Until not long ago, anyone who presented any problem or physical difficulty was labeled as handicaped. It was an accepted word that, little by little, has been replaced from common speech, due to its pejorative insinuations, with the term 'disability'.
Around this term, rose another argument that people with disabilities were no less capable as people, that they simply had different or special abilities. The latter also caused some uproar, since we all have abilities that are different from one another. Likewise, there was still a difference between a person with difficulty and a person without it, that is, differences.
...nowadays
Nowadays, at a professional level (generally in the health field) the correct word in these cases is a person with functional diversity (which includes all types of difficulties, whether motor, cognitive, sensory) or person with reduced mobility (especially for physical problems such as at the motor level). However, the term disability is also admitted, since it does not imply that the person is disabled, but has a disability.
SU TAXI Valencia prides itself with its respectful treatment within this sector, and that is why our mission is to provide a wheelchair taxi service based on awareness and respect. SU TAXI Valencia is officially listed as a taxi for PRM, that is, for Persons with Reduced Mobility, attending to all your requirements, trying to make your life a little better.
