We are faced with the biggest wave of strikes that the taxi sector has lived in years, and it is true that a situation has to be very twisted so that a strike of this type occurs. But a strike is not a threat, it is the means of a society to raise its voice.
Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia are the cities that, so far, are the most active and whose purpose is none other than to make themselves heard and to claim what they consider fair.
The origin
In the last year, the taxi sector had its integrity as a job “threatened” because of the emergence of an alternative to car rentals with driver, the VTDs (such as Cabify and Uber).
In the beginning, everything was within “normal ranges” in terms of competition between public and private sectors; and a lack of state regularization because it was a new market that had to settle.
The dilemma
The problem had arisen when this second option to taxis, had begun to grow and grow, reaching a considerable amount of vehicles, and whose regulations are not specified anywhere. In one of this struggles for establishment of the basic rules, it was stipulated that both companies (taxi and VTD) could coexist, deciding that for every 30 taxis there can be 1 VTD.
The result
However, it seems that this rule is not being met and the situation is "getting out of hand."

What we want to convey is that all labor services must be regulated and operated under a legal framework, which must overpass any interest. Therefore, it is essential that the characteristics of the sector and the needs and rights of the workers be taken into account.
Behind a service, a trade, a demand, there are people offering their time, dedication and effort; they are not concepts that should be left aside, or taken lightly.
